i am finding it harder and harder to wake from my peaceful slumber. today i woke up at a glorious 12:30pm and that was only because i was attacked with cheerios smelling kisses from Marco. hes like my little puppy in the morning that licks my face...though I'm thankful he doesn't have the burnt bacon breath. i will take Cheerios though i think i might put in a request for fruit loops tomorrow
we have been staying pretty busy and active, trying to get in as much alone time as possible until Exxon comes. Marco is on research month this month and next so that he will be home when the contractions start....although once i turn into the exorcist he might be wishing otherwise lol
i started doing some research about homeopathic stuff to help with labor, and short of "don't get pregnant in the first place" i was able to find only a few things. the one i found is a tincture called "gentle birth formula" it has herbs in it that the American Indians use(d) for child birthing. so i researched ALOT and after numerous medical journals and blogs and the ok from the smartest person i know....Marco....then i broached the subject with the midwife. i explained that the eviction notice up my hoo-hah did not work and it seems as though the baby has just bought new furniture for my womb as though its staying for a bit longer. she laughed and said the tincture was fine. so i started that and i started evening primrose oil. the oil is just a prostaglandin which helps to soften the cervix. no biggie. this is pretty commonly used....unless you are having sex like a rabbit then you dont need it (men's swimmers are in prostaglandins-same thing). but seeing as how i have a small toddler inside me-its very hard BAHAHAHA! and the tincture is the mildest of all the ones i researched. its funny bc i thought for sure i would go early but now I'm not so sure, and I'm getting worried. i do NOT want to be induced. i just dont. I've been going to great strides to keep this an all natural birth, and aside from having to get penicillin at delivery (bc I'm strep B positive which is pretty common) that is all that i can stand. so Marco and i discussed...bc i have to have an escape route....at 40 or 41 weeks i will start acupuncture to see if that moves things along!
went to a BBQ last night at one of the doctors houses and had a great time! so many people ...OK...only 2 or 3 but that's so many to me-told me that i looked really good for being 39 weeks. of course i pretended to be humble and said "aw thank you" but really i wanted to say "that's right beutch i do look good!" and then do sha-nay-nay lips "mmm-kay!"
i was at 14 lb with my 35 week visit then i started to retain a lot of fluid and went to 21 lb. the last visit, last Tuesday, i weighed in having lost 3 lb so i am at a grand total of 18lb weight gain. spectaculoso if i do say so myself!
went to the midwife last tuesday and was told my cervix is softening and is dimpled. good news! and im 50% effaced!."
(Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement.
Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner. If you are a first time mom, your cervix will usually efface before it dilates. If you are a second time mom, your cervix will usually dilate before effacement.)
I'm sleeping good (too good), back feels great and so do feet, still numb finger tips from swelling in hands but other than that i feel good.
baby is moving tons, but the midwife thinks it has turned a bit so the spine is on my spine. still head down which is good but the baby needs to rotate like a rotisserie chicken so its spine is against my belly button otherwise spankings will ensue after birth for giving me a painful labor lol
i will have a chat with exxon later tonight and discuss the consequences :)
(marco doing the nursery,me at 38 weeks,my belly button at present, then 39 week photos at 1 am and i am tired!!!)
.

You DO look good for 39 weeks! Congrats on only 18 pound weight gain! I'm envious. I gained 18 pounds just reading your blog.
